Franklin is unique with a rich history and is the crowning jewel of Southern Hospitality. It was founded October 26, 1799, and named after Benjamin Franklin. It is the county seat of Williamson County and one of the principal cities in the Nashville Metropolitan area. Major fun and free festivals are held frequently throughout the year. Franklin has a population of about 75,000. The Battle of Franklin was fought on November 30, 1864, and was one of the Civil War’s largest and most devastating battles in human casualties resulting in almost 10,000 casualties requiring 44 of the town’s buildings to be turned into field hospitals. Several of the original structures still stand today.
Franklin has been named one of the “Five Best Places in America to Antique Shop” and has won the “Great American Main Street Award” for good reason. There are five National Register historic districts within city limits, and visiting the quaint downtown area is like taking a step back in time. Beautifully preserved brick walkways and Victorian architecture lend their charm to this pretty town.
Franklin is part of the Williamson County School District, which covers several cities consisting over 44 schools total. Franklin has 5 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 1 high school. Most of the schools in Franklin have excellent ratings by greatschools.org. The Freedom Intermediate School gets a perfect 10. Things to do
The dining in Franklin is exceptional. You’ll find everything from quick grab-a-bite-and-go cafés to five-star culinary delights. The Cool Springs Galleria is a fantastic mall with boutiques, brand-name stores and all of the traditional mall staples: Sears, Macy’s, Dillards and, of course, Starbucks. If you’re strolling down Main Street, you’ll love stopping in the local shops; there are dozens. Fun and free festivals are held frequently throughout the year.
